Washington and Tehran are reportedly on the brink of a major breakthrough that could finally halt their current war, with a formal reply from Iran anticipated sometime in the next 48 hours.

Based on reporting from Reuters and Axios, the potential deal is condensed into a tight, 14-point memorandum. This roadmap kicks off with an immediate halt to all fighting, which then triggers a 30-day window for both sides to sit down and hammer out a more permanent peace.

At the heart of the agreement is a mutual deal to stop blocking the Strait of Hormuz—a massive move that would likely calm global oil markets and lower the temperature in those volatile waters. The trade-off is straightforward: the U.S. would start peeling back the heavy economic sanctions it has placed on Iran.

In exchange, Tehran has to agree to a 15-year freeze on uranium enrichment, effectively pausing their nuclear program to satisfy a major U.S. security demand.

While Iranian officials have gone on record to say they are looking the deal over, the situation remains a high-stakes diplomatic waiting game.
