Donald Trump has canceled the planned visit of a US delegation to Pakistan for negotiations related to Iran.
According to statements given to Fox News, Trump said the decision was made to avoid sending his team on a long 18-hour journey without meaningful outcomes, adding that the US holds a strong position and that Iranian negotiators can reach out whenever they are ready.
The delegation, which included Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will no longer travel for the scheduled talks.
Earlier, sources within the Pakistani government told Reuters that the Iranian delegation had already departed from Islamabad.
Among those leaving was Abbas Araghchi, who had been in Pakistan for discussions with local officials, as reported by Iranian state media.
