A pro-Iran hacker collective, the “Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq – 313 Team,” has claimed credit for a major cyberattack against Spotify.
According to a report cited by the McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security, the group launched the operation on Telegram, calling it “revenge” for the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The assault triggered massive service disruptions on Wednesday night. Users worldwide reported widespread outages across Spotify’s mobile app, web player, and customer support channels.
While Spotify acknowledged the technical difficulties and confirmed an ongoing investigation, it did not officially attribute the downtime to a cyber weapon.
The hackers reportedly utilized a massive Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack to flood and overwhelm Spotify’s servers.
This incident aligns with an escalating wave of hostile Iranian digital operations, which recently included threatening WhatsApp messages broadcast to Israeli citizens via hijacked or fraudulent business profiles.
